Under The Weather...and there's a lot of that!

l have a cold and the sore muscle-type flu, first of the season. BOO! Here I am just hanging out on my grubby tracksuit and making many return trips to my bed where the cosy flannel sheets beckon between cups of Lemon Thriller Tea. (I'm not that thrilled!)

I even had to cancel out on a baby shower today I was really looking forward to and we also cancelled my husband's office annual Christmas Sunday brunch at a really nice Hotel/Convention Centre for tomorrow. Well, perhaps we'll enjoy it better in the February Blah season. (The blind gift exchange will be Christmasy!)

We have major snowsquall warnings for tonight and tomorrow with accumulations of >15 cm! Our town's Santa Claus Parade is this evening too! The hot chocolate sales might be brisk!

The sun is actually shining brightly right now after last night's flurries. It looks beautiful even though it is -10 C!

Good thing I have almost all the Christmas baking done that I can do and freeze.

Mother of Invention, who will be watching the parade tonight, looking out the office window, wrapped in a blankie and sipping the 5th cup of Lemon Thriller!

It is equally drab here today, save for the snow.
Pamper yourself, laze around; how often is it that you have an excuse to lie under the covers and read yourself to sleep? The day makes the mood and we are ready for a snooze.

It is a well-known medical fact that if you mail your Christmas goodies to me, you will feel infinitely better.

It's true!

We are squealing at our house today as it is snowing, not a frequent event around here. It's beautiful.

Hope the tea helps.

Yall are lucky up there. Today in Galveston, the temperature hit a chilly low of 60 F. The chance of snow is -67 and I don't need a jacket to walk outside... but then, I am in Texas...

Hope all these comments will help you feel better. No snow here yet, but I envy you the coziness of being INSIDE looking OUTSIDE at it. Reading your post brought back all my snow days memories. I love a fire in the fireplace, something hot to drink and a good book.

It's a shame that you're sick :(
I recommend chicken soup, vitamin C, Zicam, and lots of water & rest. How sad that you'll be missing these Christmas festivities, but good that the cookies are baked. I need to stop all this Blogging and get started coming up with an idea for my holiday cards.
Hugs and blessings,

I hope you feel better soon. Unfortunately the cold weather often brings a cold that socks you in for a while. Lemon tea sounds like a good way to deal with it.

Oh poor you! Hope you soon feel very much better. My trick is to take lots of Zinc and Vitamin C - the zinc is particularly effective, especially if you can stomach sucking on it - tastes vile, and absolutely don't do it on an empty stomach, but it works.

Christmas baking? Oh dear, best I get my skates on and start making vanilla kipferls a la my grandmother!

Be better soon. Sending hugs and strength and healing.

Oh, that stinks. We got a few inches of snow on Saturday (the storm that headed your way) and then a nice sheeting of ice on top of it all. Pretty and pretty slick. Salt and shovels on Sunday made it all clear, though.

I foresee the first bump in your husband's schedule from all that shovelling today, Monday.

Hope all that tea is having a good effect.

Thanks, everyone! I'm still nursing the cold and sore muscles and we're having wicked weather here so I'm really debating whether to go to some choir practices I have this week. As Urban-Urchin says, I don't want to miss out on any special events, which I love. Maybe if I cocoon (and pamper, Goatman!) one more day and make some comforting hot soup as Storyteller has suggested and pop the C as Vanilla said!

Good thing I did the baking thing already,RDG, (I might just mail you some , Grizz!)but we've yet to put outdoor lights up and our tree is on hold because of the reno...we might have to put a small tree up on the 2nd floor if our living room is all sealed up.

Diana, many people have cancelled with my husband today and the massage therapist couodn't make it in because of icy roads!

Thanks again, my friends!

Sorry to hear you are sick. Hope you get better soon.

I'm a little under the weather too, but it is not as nice and clear cut as your. I look pretty much normal. All I have is some nasal congestion, heaviness in the chest and a dull ache in my chest on the right side. I hate that ache because it takes me months to get rid of it.

We got a fair bit of snow. They were saying 16cm when I drove to work this morning. The roads were quite traffic free as people took snow days (I guess).

So? Are you going for chicken soup or ginger infusion?

Richard: Thanks...think I like chicken soup best. Sorry you have such a chest ailment. I'd be worried if I had a chest pain in my left side especially, but I haven't had a bad cough for awhile. My muscles are still sore and I get chilled and then hot. I also have some knee ailments, one of which my husband says is "Baker's Knee", which I think is funny because I DID do a lot of baking recently!

I was worried about it.

It first arose 2 years ago as a sharp pain on my right side. A chest X-ray and a CT scan later the diagnosis was pleurisy (inflammation of the lining between the lung and chest wall). The sharp pain eventually gave way to a dull ache which went away in the summer.

Then the dull pain came back again (with a burning sensation under my right arm). Five chest X-rays later, it was put down to a viral infection of the chest wall. Again, this lasted until the summer.

Now I have a very minor rheum, but the pain is back. sigh.

Normally, it does not bother me unless I take a really deep breath. I also think my posture at work might be a contributing factor.

I tried out a gingerbread recipe over the weekend. It was pretty dismal, the cookies are too bitter, which is a shame because the raw dough was quite nice. I think I will avoid molasses in future.

MOI- so sorry you're under the weather. And it looks as if you already have quite a bit of weather.
Watching the parade wrapped in a blankie and sipping tea sounds like the perfect way to enjoy it, though.
The snowy photos are just beautiful! Is that really around your place?
And, lastly, are you freakin' kidding me that most of your baking is already done? AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!
Now I'm panicking! (panicing?)

MOI, I hope you are feeling better and I'm sorry that you've caught a cold! Please send some of that beautiful snow down my way in Virginia, it is so pretty and I love those photos!! We haven't had any snow yet this year except some flurries this morning, which I missed because I slept through it! :( We haven't had a good snow in several years!

Richard: That does seem a bit strange that it still causes you trouble. But at least you know what it is and that it's not your heart.

I baked ginger Snaps and left the egg out and...People said they were better than when I put the egg in! Really flat and chewey! Chewy?

Gewells: Our back yard backs onto a river so it's a nice escape from the front, which is on a main street. We have tons of snow and just had snowstorm #2. I'll post it soon! (My husband's office computer is the only one with pics on it!)

Good thing I did that baking since I sure don't feel like doing it now! I don't have as much as most people.

Simply Coll: Thanks....you're so right..I wasn't sleeping thinking of what I had still to do!

Lynette: We could spare tons of snow! This year we're in store for a lot they say.
