Poetry Friday: Letting Go
Mona says we should be "letting go" today but I can't seem to, Mona! My post is a fun rhyming verse about my difficulty in letting go of summer! This just came out as is in this order, spilling out as I am wont to do as per the title of this blog!
letting go
I still hang on, I can't let go
as summer's end is here, I know
today, I bought some sleeveless tops
the sales are good now at the shops
white pants and skirts still beckon me
with tanned skin, they look good, you see!
my sandals, such scuffed and worn out shoes
to toss them would give me the blues
the weather says UV is high
this sunny day I can't pass by
of vitamin D, I need my dose
so I will keep the summer close
on patio I keep it there
I sit on Adirondack chair
and read my book and soak up rays
I can't give up my summer days!
clouds pass by and it gets cool
and I must look like such a fool
after dinner, there is still light
although at 7:00, it's not that bright
in shorts divine I'm writing this
but it's not exactly summer bliss
tonight, it's going down to 5
the summer bedroom's still alive!
dressed in heavy flannel nightie
I'll defy fall, oh, cripes almighty!
just close some windows and the door
add some blankets, two or more --
what's that? a goose bump on my skin?
excuse me now, I must go in!
(If you've never seen pictures of the summer bedroom, check the link and you will understand why I am so reluctant to give it up! It's just the coolest!)

It's alway hard to let go the summer, but then again: how could we appreciates it if there where summer all the time? In that way I feel Norwegians and Canadians have a lot in common as we can experience the significant four seasons.
Great poem MoI! Wishing you a wonderful end to your week:-)

I know JUST how you feel - the rain tomorrow will usher in some cooler weather but next week we're promised more 70s. I never want the nice weather to end (even though I don't mind winter a bit).

I'm with you! Everyone around here is talking about how nice that the weather is getting cooler and I say NO bring the hot summer back. I want to wear my sundress again and fill the pockets with tomaotes!

Abby: I know the feeling! I could never fully get into the routine until October at our Thanksgiving! Summer is such freedom for a teacher.
Twilite: I'd probably like the climate there as long as it's not too, too hot.
Diana: Frost?!! OMG, we don't even have that yet except WAY up north! Put blankets on the plants!
Renny:Yes, I agree that we have lovely variety but I could use a few more weeks of summer and a few less of winter..like all of Feb. and March! Thanks, Renny! You too! Diane's posts were great.
Pauline: As teachers, we just savour summer to the max! (see my comment to Renny re: winter!)
Colleen: I love summer clothes! I didn't like it when it was above 30 C though! Too hot!

Hi moi! Unfortunately the weather gets muggy often times...but then in air-conditioning places like offices, shopping malls or home, it's ok. Do visit me here then...I'll offer you hospitality!

A summer bedroom. An idea worthy of duplication. The old farm houses around this area had summer kitchens usually down a covered walk from the house. The wood burning stove could then be used in the 100°F summers and only mom would have to suffer! I don't know how they survived in those long dresses in the summers. I had an old neighbor whose mother caught fire while starting the stove in the morning. She and his little unborn sister died that day.
Sorry about the bummer story, the good part is that he grew to be a very good person and helped me out a lot before he went.

Goatman:Many people have taken our summer bedroom and opid the plans so they could add one or include one in their house or cottage. It is special. Our house was "born" in 1921.
Yikes...bad luck story about your friend but I bet it happened more often than we know as well as other accidents of that era.

I'm with you! I can't stand that summer is already over! Although I have picked up some cute tank tops and cropped pants at extremely good Sale prices!!!

HUGE frost here last night, seems a little early in the season for freezing temps.

The first real signs of autumn are here today. My feet are actually cold once again. But Fall is a nice season too, don't you think?

As a freckled red-head, I'm mired in envy that you tan and that the white looks good on you.
Dang.

Hee! It almost sounds like you're chanting a spell to keep sumer here. ;-)

Mona: I know! Me too and I just want a chance to wear them a few times!
Gr: Man, does it ever! We're having a 23C sunny day today and even warmer tomorrow with a feels like 30C! No frost yet so taechnically it's not Indian Summer.
Barbara: Yes, I do like fall, but mostly when there is sunny days, not the cold miserable stuff.
Jocelyn: I guess so but you probably won't ever have to worry about skin cancer because you've always taken precautions. When you tan, you forget that it is a sign of damage too and don't put on sunscreen as you do.
Wear white if you like it!
Nancy: Gosh! Maybe it will work! I'm gonna chant on!

MOI, you're so much fun. I thought I'd be totally bummed that summer ended, but I'm all excited about cooking hot meals and dressing in layers and walking outdoors with a little nip in the air. I love changing seasons.

Thanks, MAGGIE! I do too, but there's something about summer and your whole pysche about it. Maybe it's because I taught so long so you always think your "life" is so over in September.
I guess I'd get bored with totally summer all the time, but winter really is too long.
