Cottage Visit!

On the weekend we spent time with really good friends at their cottage. It was unusual because we have always gone in the summer but for some reason we couldn't get any dates that we were all free. I'm glad that happened since it gave us a new perspective. One need only look at the pictures to get a feel for the fall cottage experience. The fall colours will peak by next weekend, our Thanksgiving here.

There were eight of us there and we all did somewhat different activities. My husband went running and biking with the others who do these sports competitively and I went walking with my my Nordic poles while my girlfriends walked. My husband actually went swimming twice...mind you it was a very short swim with the water temperature at 64 F!!

I also went canoeing which I love and then tried kayaking for the second time in my life. Man, is it different! It's more difficult for me because it involves upper arm strength. It seems like you are holding the paddle in mid-air and you have to keep synchronized with the other paddler. Your legs are stretched out in front of you and your back seems to be on an angle which I could really feel in my lower back. (I have nothing left of my lowest disk)

The meals were fabulous and the close friendships were nurtured once again. It was neat to be so laid back and comfortable just being yourself, "in all your grubby glory"! No worries what you look like or what you're wearing!

That's my kind of weekend - it doesn't get any better.

Don't you think this is a much better life than the 9-to-5 grind the rest of us put in.

I am kaleidoscopic with envy (in keeping with the Fall).

RDG: Yes, you'll never have to shovel snow and air con must be a given! We're having it put in just now with the reno. I do enjoy the colours of the different seasons and there's nothing so magical as snow lightly falling while the Christmas lights are glowing through the snow-covered bushes. Wish you could see this!

Richard: Yes, I'd be there now, if I owned it and my husband was retired. It was another glorious day and would have been grand up there! Those who can manage a lot of time off and who have jobs that ae not 9-5 hum drum have it made. And I have the same coloured envy as you have!

Bob: Wish I could bottle it but thank goodness there are pictures to recall the feelings and memories.

Urban-urchin: Thanks! Gotta love the camera on visits and scenery like this!

Twilite: I can't imagine how hot it must get and I guess you never get colour change? Wish you could really see this. It's magical.

Old Lady: Hey! Hi! And thanks a batch! If you want the honest truth, my muscles were really sore afterwards and still are!!
Do you guys get much colour change there? I'm guessing not much.

Hi moi! Yep...no color change...boring but refreshingly green though except for the humid weather! Yes, I like fall for its rich colors and bountiful harvest. LOL.

I agree, this is the ultimate weekend - and in such beautiful nature.

Well, from last weekend in the Norwegian mountains, we went to Amsterdam this weekend. Contrasts is only the prename.

It does sound like a perfect weekend. I've been trying to fit in just such a weekend this autumn. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be happening (in October anyway).
Glad you could enjoy it with such good friends.
Love the leaf photo- btw.

Twilite: We're havin' turkey this weekend! Come on over here!

Toraa: Yes, how different can you get?! You'd love our lakes!

Rapunzel: I hope you've seen the spectacular colour change. No wonder you have a pool!

Diana: You got that right! It'll be a good couple of months!

Gr: Me too! You'd have loved it. Biking, running, kayaking, canoeing, walking...it was Sports Boot Camp!

Crazy King: Not at this time but thanks.

Gewels: Thanks...I took it in the sun and the the same leaf in the shade and there's no comparison ...the sun makes it look way better! It is hard to get people's schedules together. Hope you get something happening soon.

And you know I love cottage life and the nature and cannoning and everything - and so does my American wife too you know.

So; there is no better way to spend a weekend - I do agree 100%

Coll:Thanks. It wasn't quite peaked but getting there. What a gift that weekend was!

Mona: You deserve one and yep, I'm lucky. I loved it.

Renny: I think I might make a good Norwegian and you'd make even a better Canadian, you are so used to the cold and dressing properly for it. Our countries are so similar.

Steve: We didn't go fishing at THIS cottage, but I did catch a fair number of good bass (3/4 lb)at the camp.

Chase: You need to stop working so hard and get out to your beautiful countryside.

Meno: It was great and such a bonus to the fabulous summer we had.
