A Winner From The Non-Cook!

I am not a good cook. You are probably surprised to see me post a recipe...so am I! This is a no-fail that I made for some gals I had for lunch and they raves so I'm passing it on to you. (It's your call as to whether you use butter or margarine!!!)

Make Ahead Egg Strata

12-16 slices of white bread (You could probably use multigrain etc.)
back bacon or ham
shredded or slices of cheddar (could use Swiss etc.)
6 eggs 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 - 1 tsp of dry mustard
1/4 cup of chopped onion (I used more)
1/2 cup red pepper
1/2 cup of green pepper
1 1/2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
3 cups whole milk (you could probably use 2% or 1%)
few drops of Tabasco
1/2 cup melted butter or margarine
Special K, Bran or Corn Flakes
Spray 9X13 pan with Pam and put enough slices of bread to cover bottom
cover bread with slices of ham or bacon
lay cheese over ham
cover with slices of bread to make it like a sandwich
in a bowl, beat eggs, salt and pepper, dry mustard, onion, green and red pepper, Worcestershire sauce, milk and Tabasco. Pour over the bread, cover and put in fridge overnight
in morning, melt 1/2 cup butter and pour over top, cover with the cereal, bake uncovered 1 hour @ 350 F let set 10 min.

That sounds real gooood!

In fact, there are similarities to a an Irish recipe I was given when I went there for my ex-in-laws' family reunion a few years back - made by a nun staying with the family... that was good too. Mind you, I think your recipe sounds better - the one I had there contained no vegetables :-)

Hope you're keeping well, MOI. Sorry I haven't been around so much lately - I'm hoping to improve (ehm... 'one day'?)... but this isn't the time, seeing as my eldest has to use the pc for exams. I'll try to stop by more often though :-) I've missed your bubbling...

A question from a mediocre cook, do you cook the bacon first? If you don't isn't it all....not crisp?

Becky: That's what gives it the zippy taste.

Gr: Kellogg's Bran Flakes for me!

Gewels: Yeah, it would taste great with real butter but I chose margarine since all the babes that were here are on diets.

Rapunzel: Then try it sometime...there's lots leftover.

Annelisa: Yeah, but maybe the nun's strata was moe blessed than mine!!!

No problem, AL. I saw that you had computer problems. I still have trouble getting on your comments.

Barbara: I couldn't believe how great it was!(Neither could my friends who know I don't cook much!

Meno: Hmm..I'm assuming cook it first...I've never done it with bacon, I used ham and cut it from a big fat-free ham.

Sounds delish! As for the bacon, I would cook it first if you like it crisp...
