Red-winged Blackbird! (Mother's Day)

I saw you on a
Sunday morn so beautiful,
red and yellow bands
Riot of colour
screams out to me from the black
as I walk by you,
sitting on top of
dead old corn stalks from last fall
I can't help but stop
on this Mother's Day
you were singing just for me
Nature celebrates
It's what you gave me
and I have to honour it
I loved your spring song

Does everyone wish all Mothers a Happy Mother's Day? Here it is from the children to the mum... But, regardless...

Happy Mother's Day!

for yesterday.

I love the blackbird - I've never seen one of those before... so colourful. And how well does it go with your poem! I wonder if his song is as lovely as the more common blackbird?

Hope you had a lovely weekend, and that you have a great week ahead!!

Twilite: Thanks. Hope your day was good too!

Meno: Thanks. I think regular old blackbirds have that same call but I love their flash of red and yellow.

Gewells: Thanks! I did! I had both my mom and mother-in-law for lunch.

Lynn: Thanks. I didn'y actually take this shot but I wish I had!

Annelisa: Thanks. Yes, everyone is a mother of some sort I guess..I notice I didn't get any cards from my cats!! Hope you had a great day too. You're such a wonderful mom to your brood!

I think the song is similar. I've just begun to notice the plain blackbird's song and am surprised it comes from such a plain bird!

Have a good one. I'm still having some sporadic problems getting on your comments but it happens with some others too.

I adore the feisty red-winged blackbirds. I count the first day of spring when I see the first one each year, not the robins. (Just got a chance to catch up with all the posts I missed by being gone in one way and another the past 2 weeks. I especially loved your summer bedroom post!)

Another lovely one MOI. And I love these birds. They live in the little marshy area behind our house and wake us up every day.

Diana: Thanks, Diana! Welcome home! I knew you'd love that room. it's such a neat "cottage" room and makes us feel like we're away from it all.

Maggie: They love marshes and I like their song.

Old lady: Thanks! Glad to see you 'round these parts! That's a long flight for those birds all the way down their. They are so distinctive.

Renny: These birds are so striking to me...too bad you don't see them there. You are so funny! Yes, I had a great Mother of Invention Day! Thanks.

Colleen: They're not really out yet but very close. Will be in the next few days. We have a ton of white ones and a few purple.

I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day M.O.I. This is a wonderful photo and poem! We saw some of the red winged blackbirds nearby at a marshy conservation area and at first didn't know what they were till I looked at some bird photos. That red on their wings is so vivid, they are a treat to see!

Barbara: I can't believe they're not down there. They are striking.

Bob: Me too! A classic. I chuckle at all the re-makes of songs that we heard the originals of when we were young.

Lynclay: Yes, they really stand out and there are tons of them along country roads on the fences.

Oh, what happened to my answer????

Oh well, what's new?

I had to remind you that you are mother to your cats, but also, you are mother of invention!! :-D

(totally agree about the blackbird song - such beauty hidden within something so apparently plain! :-) One of my favourite songbirds...along with the mistle thrush)

Wilsonart: Thanks, Babs! You have very cool art.

Annelisa: Paul Mc. didn't write that song for nothin'! Are blackbirds related to Magpies? Have never heard of a mistle thrush.
