Shortest Post...Poetry Friday!

The word was "dark" or darkness" and it seemed too dark and depressing to write about so I had to turn it around. This is really an ode to my birthday, which I like to think represents my "light" brought into the world after the shortest day of the year!

out
of
the
darkness
of winter solstice
comes the light
from a baby born
on December 22nd
it increases slowly
ray by ray
it stretches
across the universe
touching everything
until finally
it reaches its eternal summer
Mother of Invention, thinkin' this looks like a candle!

It definitely looks like a candle lantern or oil lamp.

I'm always so impressed with the shape of your poems. Those simple words convey an awful lot of information.

Thanks...actually, I didn't think of making that shape from the start. Then, I just rearranged the words to make it look like a candle or lantern.

I like that your poems always hold a shape with the words. As for the words themselves, this is a truly lovely poem!

My first thought was it looked like a lantern!

So, we are fellow capricorns, eh? Mine's on the 3rd of Jan - not that anyone ever notices, being just after a hefty new year! :-)

You know why I really like this? Because it's like you see yourself as a light, stretching out across the universe... and touching everything... that's so lovely. All those connecting threads hooking behind the tapestry, all the light rays, merging to form bright spots...

Maggie:It sometimes is an accident and other times I do it that way..it is kinda neat when you can do that! Thanks.

Annelisa: I'm on the cusp so I'm barely into Cap..I read both Sag and Cap and choose the one I like!!

It is a nice way to think of myself..uplifting and positive ..and yes, very connective. Thanks!

Quite the artistic achievement!

I love the winter solstice; no where to go but up, as the days slowly but surely get longer.

darn it, lost my comment again!

Just said that I'd like to be able to choose like that, but it sounds so like you...not to be pinned down by a star sign :-)
