Mooky's First Christmas!

Mooky's First Christmas!

kitty looks incredulously
at the fir tree
horizontally placed
on our back porch…
sick tree, she concludes,
runs around it
jumps in and out
of its branches…
5 minutes of pure fun…
and it’s only just started!
she sits,
hiding in amongst its pricklies
little gray tabby
with the distinctive "M"
on her forehead
she thinks it stands for "Mooky"
and it does,
barely visible through the greenery
huge slate blue eyes
looking out
wondering what comes next?
the fir is pulled along to the door
with no regard for her dish
on the back stoop
spilling its contents
and toppling down the steps,
free ride for Mooky!
"and a tabby in a fir tree!"
the small feline clings as mightily as
her little pink paws will allow
we stand the tree up…
no easy task!
Christmas brings a whole new perspective
even for cats
but she wants down
and her kitten memory has failed her
(how DID I get out of that thick cedar
I played in last summer?)
we extricate her with
"The Jaws of Life"!
Big Long Leather Gloves
especially designed
for handling prickly needles
AND
sharp claws of terrified stranded kittens!
and now
for the strings of lights!

(to be continued on the next post, once we replace all the chewed up wires! We didn't get pics of this but this is Mooky exploring evergreens and various highlights in our back yard last winter.)

My Christmas tree is bare on the bottom branches. Keeps the kitties out of trouble. They love to sit under it when the lights are on.

boo: Thanks1 We think she's neat.

Old Lady: My one sits right in under the tree on the tree skirt. We got all those unbreakable balls for the bottom part!

Meno: I love those "M" marks! She is a sweetie most of the time!

Imagine seeing snow for the first time? Well the first snow always feels a little magical. None here as of yet.

How cute! It's always fun to see how the pets take in the holidays - so much excitement and new items to explore.

Colleen: It must be freaky since I'm sure they forget from year to year what snow is! They really do "pussyfoot" around in it. We had a dump a week ago but this weird weather has turned super mild and it's raining!

Lynn: Thanks! Cats sometimes are so predictable.

Brooksba: Yes, they sure do respond to any little change let alone all those at Christmas! Hey, this poem is in a Christmas tree shape! I just noticed!

Good curiosity on the part of Mooky. I want to see a picture of the decorated tree with Mooky taking a good look.

M is for Mooky and Mooky is for... Christmas Tree.

Sorry. I've been hanging out with 3 year olds way too much.

Can't wait for the continuation.

Diana: Yep, they're my kids!

Barbara: Cats are so nosy and curious! We actually don't have a picture of her but some of a few other cats over the years. I'll have to catch her this year!

Bobealia: Too funny! I start acting like Gr. 1's after awhile too!

Ah, to be a cat, eh? What a life to lead... I think I'd like to try it for a day or two... curling up on a lap or a bed; dozing by a fire; everything fair game to be a toy; wandering around at will; no work to do; food provided when hungry; don't have to decide what to where, clean, iron, cook, shop for... etc

Oh yes, Mooky's got the right idea - just enjoy life!
